MISSION STATEMENT

boys team charity is a volunteer service organization dedicated to developing an altruistic spirit in young men through active participation of parents and sons in philanthropic projects in their communities.


GOALS

  1. Serve the Community: Develop a sense of social responsibility.

        2. Promote Personal Growth: Build self-esteem and a giving spirit.

        3. Strengthen Family Relationships:  Deepen bonds with parents by working together in boys team charity.

        4. Develop Leadership Skills:  Cultivate respect and an appreciation of others by working as a team, developing leadership skills, and creating friendships.

        5. Provide Educational Opportunities:  Provide young men with experiences that foster their leadership abilities.


  FACTS & REQUIREMENTS

•  Boys are “TeamMates” and Parents are “Coaches

•  Our annual operating year is May 1st through April 30th 

•  Prospective members may apply to join btc during the annual Prospective Membership Drive during their 6th through the 11th-grade year. Boys are assigned to “Teams” by the grade that they will enter in the fall of that membership year. Members are in grades 7-12. Sponsors are not required during a league's inaugural membership drive so that box on the application may be left blank.

•  There are approximately 25 boys in each Team (by grade) with vacancies filled during the annual Prospective Membership Drive by random draw as they are available. We maintain a waitlist of interested candidates should we not have openings in a particular team.

 

 btc Leawood applicants are eligible for membership if living in, or attending school in,
zip codes:  66206, 66209, 66211 or 66224.


•  btc has three (3) General Membership meetings per year (typically May, September and January) that both the boy and parent(s) should attend; two (2) are required 

•  btc has three (3) additional grade-level meetings per year that the boy only should attend; two (2) meetings are required

•  Parents (Coaches) are expected to take on a leadership position at some point during their years with btc. There are many roles, large and small.

•  Philanthropy Hours are earned while serving at one of our btc Leawood-approved philanthropies. Annual minimum Philanthropy Service Hours requirements for both boys AND parent(s): 

  • Grades  7, 8, 9              15 philanthropy service hours each*
                                          6 league hours**

  • Grades 10, 11, 12          10 hours each*
                                          6 league hours**

               * Coaches with more than 1 active TeamMate must do philanthropy hours of youngest son.
                     ** League hours are earned by attending general membership and grade-level meetings. 

 

Annual minimum League Hours requirements for both boys & parent(s): 6 hours minimum each (earned by attending general and grade level meetings as mentioned above)

•  Annual Financial Requirements:
    Each league has annual membership dues that are used to cover our operating expenses:
    insurance, website, speakers, venues, activities, etc.

                   TeamMate plus one or two Coaches (parents): $175
                   Additional TeamMate (sibling):                        $75

 

If there are more applicants than space available in a class, the applicants will be selected by random draw to fill the class or, if necessary, placed on a waitlist. All Prospective Member applicants will be contacted by the VP of Membership following the draw.

Legacies (siblings of current members) are automatic members.
